That time I went to Tredegar House

Tredegar House, a 17th Century red brick house set in 90 acres of gardens and parkland. And no I didn't walk the entire lot. It is situated just outside Newport and for anyone thinking of visiting (you really should) go check out the National Trusts website here.
I visited towards the end of last year and took all these photos with my iPhone, I'm hoping to go again soon with my lovely Nikon camera to capture more lovely pics.

Arty Macro

Time for some arty type photos, I do like taking close up shots of things but have been without a decent macro lens since I changed my Nokia phone for an iPhone. But now, once again, I have a macro lens so I've put it to use. Though it would have been handy two years ago when I found fossils on our trip to the Jurassic Coast (Lyme Regis)
I think I have photos of them somewhere which I'll share at a later date if I can find them.

Amethyst Geode at Cardiff Museum.

I know these photos will never win any awards but they make me happy to see, particularly the amethyst one. Who knew amethysts had gold flecks in them, although I suspect it's iron deposits left during the formation I'm no expert so don't quote me on that.

Some Black and White Photos

Some photos just look better in black and white, or sepia. Each of these photos started in full colour and I adjusted them all to black and white or shades thereof.

There's just something about B&W work, I hope I can improve on it now I have my new camera, keep your eyes peeled for future black & whites.

Older Photos - Part 2

Some more photos I've taken pre-SLR, you might have noticed by now there's very few if any people in my pictures. That's because I much prefer landscapes, cityscapes and animals to people. That and I do believe you need permission to take photos of strangers (?) which I really cannot be fussed with.

I've got some black and white shots I'm going to post as well but I'm only putting a few photos up at a time so as not to use up everything I have. Soon the postings will reduce to once a week maybe while I get new material. I don't drive so I rely on the Mr a lot to take me places where I can get snap-happy.

In the mean time enjoy.

Older Photos - Part 1

As I've only had my new all singing, all dancing camera for a week or so I really don't have that many photos I've taken with it to post on here yet. So I thought I would share some of the photos I've taken previously using my iPhone, a old digital camera I had several years ago and a Nokia phone (don't ask me which one I can't recall)

I'll try to label them with which device was used, and where the photo was taken but some are years old now and I might not recall 100%.

I have some more to share but don't want to overload with too many photos all at once. I hope you liked seeing some of my old pictures. Feel free to drop me a comment, share on twitter or follow me.

National Botanical Garden of Wales - Part 2

As promised part 2 from our visit to the National Botanical Gardens of Wales on Saturday, I got lucky I believe and caught some wonderful shots of birds. I kneeled down to get the first shot, ended up with wet knees and needing a hand back up again. The geese in the second shot had decided I had got too close and were leaving, I took several photos of them but this one turned out the best. And the mallard in the last photo was pure luck.

Hope these have piqued someones interest at least, feel free to leave me a comment on how I could improve or if you like anything.

National Botanical Garden of Wales - Part 1

We visited the Botanical Gardens on Saturday, or as the Mr would say, I dragged him there. We ran the gauntlet of weathers whilst there, from glorious sunshine to overcast with the threat of rain. It was only the second time I'd used the camera so still had it set on 'guide' mode.
(I might post some of the first photos I took but they seriously aren't that good)
The photo's I've shared are all from the 'glorious sunshine' part of our day, the colours really came out fantastically. I thought I'd share a few scenic shots today and some animal shots tomorrow. I hope you've enjoyed seeing the National Botanical Garden of Wales, if you can visit at any point I'd recommend it.

A Beginner

I bought a Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55 mm ED II f/3.5-5.6G and 55-200 mm f/4.0-5.6G Telephoto Lens (I copied & pasted that) recently after deciding I wanted to take better photos than I can with my iPhone. Might have bitten off more than I can chew as I have exactly zero clues what I'm doing, but I'll figure it out eventually.
Look it's my new camera!!
I then decided to start a blog to share the photos I take with anyone who's kind enough to take pity on me and come look see. It's only taken me two hours to figure out how to change them from their RAW format into a JPG so this is going to be a slow process.

I hope people will come to see me hopefully improve with my photography, I do enjoy taking the pictures and it would be nice if others were to enjoy seeing them.
